Metis Engineering has signed a sales representation agreement with Quanzen giving the market development experts exclusive sales representation of its CAN based sensors in India.

Metis Engineering develops and manufactures a range of CAN based sensors for the automotive, aerospace, marine, defence motorsport and static energy storage sectors. These include sensors for Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Untethered Dead Reckoning (UDR) and Cell Guard, a unique sensor that provides unrivalled accurate and detailed information on the health of a lithium-ion battery pack to improve longevity, as well as being capable of detecting cell venting, which is an early sign of catastrophic battery failure vastly reducing the risk of EV fire.

Unlike current battery cell monitoring systems (BMS), which typically only measure voltage and temperature on a few cells per pack, Cell Guard monitors a range of environmental parameters required to ensure that the battery continues to operate in optimum conditions, including VOCs, Pressure change, Humidity, Dew point and has an optional Accelerometer to record shock loads.

Joe Holdsworth, Managing Director at Metis Engineering said: “India is an exciting region for us, it’s such a hot bed of innovation in electric vehicles of all forms and static energy storage too. Quanzen are experts in the region, and we are delighted to sign an exclusive partnership with them.

Sudhir Nerurkar, President & CEO at Quanzen said: “With Cell Guard, Metis Engineering is setting a new standard for advanced battery health monitoring in EVs. Metis is the right supplier-partner to work with, since it ticks all the boxes – proven product, strong R&D, willingness to adopt Cell Guard for the cost-conscious Indian market and open to localizing Cell Guard production.”
