Battery Solutions has announced their continued commitment to R2/RIOS (Responsible Recycling and Recycling Industry Operation Standards). Battery Solutions successfully completed their first audit since their certification with no major or minor nonconformance.
The company was the first battery recycler to receive the R2:2013 Standard, in early September 2014. The R2/RIOS certification is valid for three years but in order to remain in good standing, a surveillance audit must be completed annually.
The certification body (CB) commented on the cleanliness of both the Michigan and Arizona facilities, especially with the constant activity, given high volumes of batteries, and how Battery Solutions “lived” the system.
“It is a validation that our operation and processes are industry leading which was highlighted by the CB,” said Thomas Bjarnemark, Battery Solutions CEO. “Our main driver for achieving the R2:2013 Standard/RIOSTM remains the same: it is very important to our clients because this gives a framework to track the entire chain-of-custody of spent batteries downstream with more transparency than the battery recycling industry has ever seen in the past.”
The R2 “Responsible Recycling” Standard was developed after recognizing a need for an all-inclusive certification program that addressed the operational and environmental challenges in the electronics recycling industry. The Recycling Industry Operation Standard (RIOS) is the recycling industry’s standard for the quality, environmental and health and safety (QEH&S) management systems.
