FARMINGTON HILLS, MICH, March 17, 2023 – INOAC USA, Inc., a leading innovator in polymer chemistry, announced today it will display its industry-leading foam products at this year’s International Battery Seminar & Exhibit, which takes place March 20 -23, at Loews Royal Pacific Resort in Orlando, Fla. INOAC’s foam materials provide cushioning, compression, sealing, vibration control and thermal conduction for Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries.
“As more and more automakers commit to going electric, the need for safer, longer lasting and more efficient EV batteries becomes critical,” said Brad Harris, Director of New Business Development at INOAC Interior Systems. “INOAC has invested heavily in developing a wide range of innovative foams that protect and secure EV batteries, solving many of the challenges faced by today’s manufacturers.”
While foam materials are not as well-known as other components, they are essential in keeping EV batteries running. EV batteries expand and contract during recharging and discharging, which can shorten the life of the battery and lead to thermal runaway. INOAC’s flame-retardant foam materials control the battery’s surface pressure, without comprising the shape and fit of the cells.
In addition, specialized foams can separate the hundreds or even thousands of battery cells - preventing them from colliding, while ensuring a tight fit. These materials are also used as seals to protect from moisture, dust and other contaminants; reduce vibration; and efficiently transfer heat.
“INOAC’s 90-year history of manufacturing and engineering foam materials allowed us to pivot quickly to service the fast-growing EV battery market with high-performance products,” said Harris. “We also use our global supply chain to provide some of the shortest lead times in the industry to overcome material shortages.”
INOAC’s PORON and Celldamper are versatile polyurethane foams. NanNex is a high-expansion silicone. GOMSPOR is a durable Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber. Transcool is available as either a silicone or acrylic material.
