Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Launches a Venture Capital Fund to Invest Up to $1 Billion Over Five Years
Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, a leading automotive alliance, has announced the launch of Alliance Ventures, a new corporate venture capital fund that plans to invest up to $1 billion to support open innovation over the next five years. In its first year, the fund expects to invest up to $200 million in start-ups and open innovation partnerships with technology entrepreneurs focused on new mobility, including vehicle electrification, autonomous systems, connectivity and artificial intelligence.
NEC Energy Solutions Commissions 50 MW of Grid Energy Storage Facilities in UK

New Lithium-Rich Battery Could Last Much Longer
On paper, it doesn't seem like Christopher Wolverton's super lithium-rich battery should work. For one, the novel battery uses iron, an inexpensive metal that has notoriously failed in batteries. And in another difficult feat, the battery leverages oxygen to help drive the chemical reaction, which researchers previously believed would cause the battery to become unstable. But not only does the battery work, it does so incredibly well.
Nexeon Leads Project Aimed at Doubling Range of Next Generation EVs
Nexeon, a company developing silicon materials for next generation Li-ion batteries, and its partners have been awarded £7 million in Innovate UK funding for a project to develop significantly better materials for Li-ion batteries. The work is an essential step to achieving electric vehicles (EVs) with a range of 400 miles and above. The project, named SUNRISE, will develop better battery materials based on silicon as a replacement for carbon in the cell anode, and optimize cell designs for automotive application.
